The looming expiration of an $8,000 tax credit for first-time home buyers and longer closing periods caused a November home sales blitz in Cowlitz County, the Northwest Multiple Listing Service and area brokers said this week.

Cowlitz real-estate agents sold 84 homes last month, the best sales month in two years. Sales were up by more than 50 percent over October and the previous November, and last month was the highest-selling November since 2006.
