Figures provide foundation for hope in local new-home market

New-home sales and construction continued to fall in the third quarter, but inklings of hope are emerging in the Houston area’s housing market.

Builders said more consumers are out shopping, and the number of new homes for sale in the best neighborhoods is dwindling.

“In some areas, demand for new homes is even outpacing supply,” said David Jarvis, the Houston director of Metro- study, which released its third-quarter housing report Wednesday.
