First-Time Home Buyers Need to Act Fast

It’s hard enough to find your dream home. If you want the $8,000 tax break from the government being offered to first-time buyers, you better hurry up. It takes three to four weeks to process a loan. Dan Matthews of Carolina Mortgage said, “A person has got to have a signed contract this weekend if they want to close by Nov. 30th to qualify for the tax credit.” Matthews added, “You’ll lose a few days due to the Thanksgiving holiday.” At C. Dan Joyner Prudential Co., realtors know they have to close the deal fast. Typically, there’s an offer, a counter offer, and several concessions in between. For some prospective buyers, it may already be too late.
