Home sales picking up in Sheboygan County

Falling home prices and a rush of first-time homebuyers during the third quarter helped the Sheboygan County housing market post its busiest three-month stretch of the year, according to a report released Friday by the Metro Multiple Listing Service.

The number of countywide home sales increased 5.6 percent during the third quarter compared to one year ago, following two straight quarters where sales had fallen by as much as 30 percent.

The sales pickup came as the average home sale price for the first nine months of the year retreated to a six-year low when compared to past Septembers, falling 15.1 percent to $139,947. The price drop continued a nearly yearlong trend of double-digit dips in sale prices.
