Realtors are warning consumers about phony mortgage modification schemes offered by scam artists to troubled borrowers. The California Association of Realtors has issued an announcement designed for media outlets to alert consumers during a time that is traditionally high in consumer scam attempts.

“Every week we hear reports of unscrupulous con artists who have taken advantage of unknowing, financially troubled homeowners,” said LeFrancis Arnold, the state group’s president.
