State treasurer extends loan program for returning soldiers
Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias today announced the expansion of a state-run borrowing program that would provide short-term, low-interest loans to military personnel returning from deployment.
The treasurer’s office will partner with banks across the state to provide two-year loans of up to $10,000 for Illinois National Guard and U.S. military reserve members within six months of their return home from active duty. Interest rates would be capped at 3 percent, and service members must receive an honorable discharge from duty to qualify.
