Which Color Should you Paint to Sell your Home Faster?

Given the number of homes currently for sale on the market, owners who are serious about selling their homes have absolutely no wiggle room when it comes to paint color selections that deviate even slightly from the mainstream. The best possible option is to try to appeal to the widest pool of buyers possible. The simple fact is that brash colors typically do not appeal to the largest groups of buyers. They can serve as a turn-off to many buyers and cause them to look elsewhere.

Not sure which color you should go with when trying to sell your home faster? Try taking a drive around the neighborhood and looking to see which colors are used on other homes in the area. This can be a great way to gain inspiration. In many cases, if your home stands out too much from other homes in the area, it can be a huge turn-off to buyers. Standing out from the crowd can be good, but there can also be too much of a good thing.

It's also a good idea to give come consideration to the area of the country where you live, but do not allow yourself to become too fixated on that mindset. Regional colors definitely exist. For example, in the Southwest, you can easily get away with spicy colors. In tropical areas, blues are commonly used. With that said; however, keep in mind that with more and more people relocating around the country, newcomers might not be so willing to adapt to colors that have been traditionally accepted in that area.

Earth tones are popular in almost all areas. If you are still unsure about which colors you should use, consider beginning with earth tones and steering clear of anything that is very taste specific or bold. Avoid bright colors. You should also look at new home construction and then imitate what builders in your area are doing. New construction builders are usually fairly good about having their fingers on the pulse of what buyers are looking for. Take a page from their book.

Above all, make certain that your front door has a beautiful paint job. Front doors are extremely important. It can be a fine balance when it comes to the front door. While it is possible to get away with a bit of drama at the entrance, you do want to avoid going too far. Once again, look at other homes in the area as well as newly constructed homes to get some ideas on just how much you can get away with at your entrance.

In the end, it's all about curb appeal. Remember, if a house is not appealing to buyers from the outside, you will have an extremely difficult time convincing them to stop and take a look at the inside of the home. In far too many instances, sellers frequently only consider what they want in their home. If they tend to be a bright and cheery person, that is often reflected in the paint colors they select. Not everyone has the same type of personality and prefers the same color choices. That's fine if you know you are going to be in the home for a long time, but when you are trying to sell your home, you need to consider color choices that will appeal to the mainstream. In the end, when you are trying to sell your home, it is not about emotions. It is business; pure and simple. It is imperative to keep this in mind when selling your home.

It is true that a new owner could always paint over the color if they don't like it, but this is a hassle and it is an extra expense. If there is another home for sale in the area that is just as appealing to the buyers and it doesn't sport a bright shade of paint, the buyers might find it simpler to move on and choose that house over yours. While repainting your home might seem as though it is a huge expense, in the long run it is actually an investment and could be one that serves to help you sell your home faster and possibly for even more money. If you need to sell your home quickly or your home has been sitting on the market for awhile, it can certainly be worth it to consider making that investment and springing for a new paint job.
