Add Some Seasonal Touches to Sell your Home Faster
If your house didn't sell this past summer like you thought it would,
that doesn't necessarily mean that you have missed out entirely on
opportunities to still snag an offer. In order to market your home
effectively during the fall and winter; however, you will need to
remember that curb appeal is just as important as always, perhaps even
more so. Now that the leaves have dropped from the trees, any
prospective buyers will have an unobstructed view of the exterior of
your home. This means that the all important first impression is even
more crucial.
There is no getting around the fact that if the exterior of your home is
not seen as inviting then you will never get a chance to show
prospective buyers the potential of the inside of your home. If you want
to attract buyers and draw them in to see all of the many wonderful
amenities of your home, you are going to have to nap their attention
with the exterior appearance of your home first. There are some fairly
quick and easy things you can do to spruce of the outside of your home
to make the most impact possible.
First, now that fall is here and winter is rapidly approaching, make
sure that you mulch those flower beds. During the fall and winter
months, many flower beds are lacking in color, but they still need to
appear neat and orderly. The best way to do that is to add in a fresh
layer of mulch or pine straw.
It is also important to make sure your front door stands out. A fresh
new paint job is an excellent way to do this. Opt for an eye-popping
color like red to really draw attention. If you decide to keep the door
a neutral color, make sure you top it off with a shiny, fresh coat of
stain. Adding a new knob, house numbers or door knockers is also a great
idea.
Now is also a great time to replace or even add in some potted plants on
the steps or porch as well. Choose brightly colored mums for the fall
months and evergreen for winter. You might also consider placing a
pumpkin near the door or hanging up a fall wreath. These types of
additions will really make your house stand out from the rest of the
homes on the block as well as demonstrate that you are keeping the house
maintained. If you have any leftover summer plants that have died out,
now is a good time to clear them out as well. You want your home to
appear neat and tidy.
Keeping up with your raking is crucial as well. This is another
excellent way to show prospective buyers that the home is well
maintained. So, grab the rakes and lawn and leaf bags and get busy.
Along the same lines, make sure you do not overlook the gutters. During
the fall months, the gutters can quickly become filled and may appear to
buyers that the home is not being well maintained. Your gutters should
be cleared out sufficiently enough that rain water can easily pass
through.
Now is a good time to clear off the driveway and walkways as well. Your
goal here is to give your home a neat and well maintained appearance.
Clear out the kids' toys as well as anything that is leftover from
summer.
When it comes to exterior decorations, try to keep it toned down but do
decorate. The theme when trying to sell your home should be classic and
subdued. Avoid the plastic reindeer and inflatable Santas as well as the
realistic looking ghouly graveyards. Instead choose something seasonal
but steer clear of selections that might make prospective buyers cringe
when driving by. The same should also hold true when it comes to lights
for the exterior of the home. Lighting up your home is a great way to
make it stand out, but it is usually a good idea to go easy on the
exterior lights. Think simple, clean and classic.
Remember that although summer is always the best time of the year to
sell your home, just because the cooler months have arrived, that does
not meant that you should not still put in effort to attract attention.
There are still many people who are looking to make a move before
Christmas and now is the ideal attention to make sure your home stands
out from the competition.
